Create an HD Video Slide Show

Overview

High Definition video, or HD, has rapidly become the new standard for excellent playback of movies, TV, and now slide shows. The DVD format has been the standard for over a decade and is now beginning to show its age when viewed on modern HD televisions and PC monitors. HD has some excellent benefits above standard DVD, including a much higher resolution, which results in greater clarity of images, and a much higher framerate, which increases the perception of smooth motion during viewing. As a quick comparison, HD offers over double the resolution and framerate beyond that of a DVD.

Create the HD Video:

To create an HD version of your slide show you don't need to do any complicated formatting. Simply open your show in ProShow Gold or Producer and follow the steps below.

  1. Click on Create Output in the toolbar
  2. Select Video File from the Create Output menu
  3. Choose HD from the Type drop down list
  4. Select your preferred Quality level

Quality Settings:

Note that the Quality setting determines the resolution of your HD video file. If you want to create a HD video that matches your HD TV perfectly, consult your TV documentation to verify the maximum resolution of the display. HD comes in a variety of resolutions. This includes 720p, 1080i, and the highest resolution - 1080p. You should also remember that the HD standard is international, which means that your HD video will work on any TV across the world.

Notice that ProShow handles the configuration of the video file for you, filling in the Format, Resolution, and more. You can immediately see how much better your HD video will be just by looking at the Resolution and Framerate that will be used.

Display Options:

Finally, you can configure your Display options for the video to make sure that it is best suited to your target display. Most HD TVs are widescreen, which means you will likely want to change your Aspect Ratio to 16:9 (Widescreen). Once you have made the changes you want, click on Create.

When you choose Create, ProShow asks where you would like to save the video on your hard drive. Once you select a location to save the video, it is rendered and ready for you to view.

Playback on Devices:

Currently, devices capable of HD playback may require different steps in order for you to view your show. Consult the list below for steps to view HD video on the player you own.
