To avoid having to change your content or music, be sure to use legally licensed content and music in your show.
If you use a style or template, whether or not you are required to give credit to the author is entirely between you and the author.
If you do, you'll need to place it in your show, as the Photodex website lists only the actual winner, not contributing authors. No
credit is necessary for any Photodex authored styles or templates.
Are there restrictions on what content I can use in a show?
You need to have the rights to use all the content in your show. This includes images, fonts, music, styles, templates, borders, etc.
If it is in your show, you need to have rights to use it. Generally, this means that you must have either created the content yourself
(pictures you've taken, music you've recorded), or you must have secure the rights as necessary (licensed royalty free music, etc).
Why does Photodex make me change my music/fonts/etc?
You must be able to provide Photodex with proof that you have the rights to distribute the content in your show. Sometimes, we
spot content that obviously cannot be distributed. This often happens with music. Since we need all the content in your show
to be 'rights cleared,' we may require that your show be recreated with royalty free music before we can post it. We understand
that this may change your show. We know it's extra work. But, if your show contains content that can't be distributed, we
have to replace the content. We'll work with you to make it as painless as possible.
Can I use slide styles or templates to create my show? Do I need to give credit?
That is 100% between you and the author of the styles or templates. Like any other content, it depends on how the styles or templates
were licensed to you. We don't have any rules against using styles or templates in contest entries. You just need to have the
rights to use them. Generally, styles and templates provided by Photodex can be used in this way. This includes ProShow Style Packs,
built-in styles, MediaSource templates, and built-in templates.
What if someone claims my show uses their content?
Photodex takes copyright protection very seriously. If we receive a complaint that your show violates someone's copyright, we will
generally remove the show from our site while the issue is resolved. This typically happens after we receive sufficient evidence from
the copyright holder that they have a right in the work. Photodex is not able to act as an intermediary - we cannot negotiate on
your behalf to resolve the issue. You will be responsible for working the with copyright holder directly to resolve any disputes.
How do I enter?
To enter a show, you'll need a Photodex Sharing Account. Just upload a show to your account,
then enter online.
How many times can I enter?
You can enter each show one time. You can enter each contest as many times as you'd like, as long as each entry is a different show.
You can enter as many contests as you'd like, and you can enter each show in multiple contests.
Can I win more than once?
You can win only once per contest, but you can win any number of different contests.
When are winners announced?
Winners are typically announced a few weeks after the contest ends. The delay allows us to contact the winners, 'rights clear' their
shows, and get their shows up on the site. The exact timing varies as this process depends heavily on the winners.
How are contests judged? What makes a winning show?
Very simply, we watch all the shows and pick the winners. Shows might win because they make great use of the software, or they might
win because they are simply very enjoyable shows. We are not judging on specific criteria - we are simply out to find great slide shows.
How many contests are there a year?
Currently, we have three contests each year, each one lasting 4 months. We used to have monthly contests, but we got a lot of requests
to give people more time to prepare their entries.
