Photodex Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation!

A brief history of Photodex over the years.

Austin, TX, December 14, 2017 - Photodex, a leader in photo and video slideshow tools announced today that it's celebrating its 30th year in business. For 30 years Photodex has developed innovative tools for working with digital content and creating professional-quality slideshows.

Founded in 1987, Photodex has been an industry leader in photo/video slideshow software and digital content management. The company has a long history of innovation, and continues to evolve to meet the needs of digital imaging professionals and enthusiasts.

The history of Photodex includes many milestones and achievements:

  • 1991 - Photodex releases GDS (Graphic Display System), a advanced thumbnailing photo browser for DOS, featuring forward-looking tools for displaying simple photo slideshows. In the days before the internet, GDS was distributed online through bulletin board systems and helped to pioneer the 'try before you buy' software model.
  • 1995 - CompuPic is released. One of the first thumbnailing browsers for Windows 3.x and Windows 95. An advanced digital content manager for its time, CompuPic offered industry-leading speed, powerful and easy photo editing, and more advanced slideshow functionality.
  • 2002 - ProShow sets a new standard for dedicated slideshow publishing software. With precise control, an innovative user interface, and the ability to create video that could be played on a TV, ProShow set a new standard for slideshow tools and would define this product category for years to come.
  • 2009 - ProShow 4.0 introduces Effects, which allows users to apply professionally produced photo/video effects to their shows with just a few clicks. Over the coming years, Photodex would go on to release 15 different effects packs and many free effects, expanding the collection to over 3,600 different effects.
  • 2010 - Photodex releases ProShow Web, an online service for creating instant video slideshows online. ProShow Web works with any computer or iOS device and provides automatic slideshow creation, while also allowing users to fine-tune timing and individual effects.
  • 2012 - The company was awarded the People's Choice Stevie Award for Favorite Customer Service, the first of 13 Stevie Awards the department has received recognizing Photodex's long commitment to customer service. For 30 years, Photodex has provided free service to paid and trial users. All customer service is handled by our team at our Austin, Texas headquarters.
  • 2017 - ProShow 9 is released, introducing 4K video output and all new Layer Effects, allowing users to create higher quality video slideshows than ever before.

Additionally, Photodex has hosted dozens of training seminars in the US and abroad, held multiple ProShow Conferences attracting hundreds of attendees, and released hundreds of online training videos.

With 30 years of experience under its belt, Photodex is preparing for the next 30 years with an aggressive plan for future innovation. Over the coming years, Photodex will continue to set the standard for photo/video slideshow tools and excellent customer service.
