It all starts back in 1987, when Paul Schmidt founded Photodex with a simple idea: create good software. In 1991 we released one of the very first digital imaging programs for consumers called GDS - Graphic Display System. It allowed users to display a series of digital photos on their screen, each transitioning to the next without user interaction. A pretty simple slideshow against today's standards, but it was pretty spiffy for its time.
As the first digital cameras were becoming available in the mid 1990's, consumers were taking more pictures than ever and didn't have an easy way to browse or easily organize all their photos. We focused our efforts on content management solutions and developed the CompuPic line of products. With CompuPic, users could browse through hundreds of photos quickly, organize them into albums and even play back a simple slideshow of their images. As digital content management evolved, CompuPic delivered in every way, garnering numerous awards and industry recognition, and it held its market leading position for nearly a decade.
In the early 2000's we set out to develop a new tool for consumers that wanted to not only organize and view their digital photos, but share them with friends and family in a new, compelling way. We started to develop an application that allowed anyone, regardless of their experience, to create a beautiful photo slideshow and in November of 2002 we released the very first version of ProShow. It instantly set a new standard for slideshows.
In 2005 we expanded our ProShow line to include Producer, a professional tool for photographers and business users. And in 2010 we introduced ProShow Web, our online slideshow service that takes the power of our ProShow software and allows anyone, anywhere, on any computer, to create beautiful video slideshows online.
Moving forward as digital sharing changes and evolves, we will continue to offer fresh, innovative ways for our customers to create and share their digital memories.
